Instituto de Investigación en Biomoléculas (INBIO)

INBIO

WHAT IS  INBIO?

Although the idea arose in 2002, the  Biomolecules Institute (INBIO) denomination has begun to be used as an independent unit ten years later.

The Institute arises naturally from the collaborative work that has been done during the last few years among researchers in the field of chemical sciences, life sciences, and biotechnology.

With the creation of this Institute, researchers intend to develop the interdisciplinary collaboration already existing among scientists from different fields, in order to study the role of new molecules, either obtained by synthesis, or isolated from natural sources, in different biological processes

In addition, it is intended to address the study of its potential in the development of agrochemicals and new medicines for the treatment or diagnosis of human diseases of special prevalence.

OBJETIVES

  • To favor the conditions that stimulate the interaction between the different researchers of the institute in order to make a qualitative leap in scientific productivity, achieving by means of synergies publications with a higher impact index.
  • To promote the development and application of advanced methodologies for the characterization of biomolecules, which guarantee their possible applications.
  • Study models and functional mechanisms of biomolecules, as well as their interactions with biological targets in different living organisms.
  • To attract talent at all levels to contribute the achievement of previous objectives. To fulfill this objective, INBIO will encourage the incorporation of external researchers with an emerging or consolidated trajectory whose activity complements and enriches that of the members currently integrated in the Institute.
  • To encourage the participation of its researchers, as much already integrated as those who join in the future, in the national and international public calls for human resources (technicians and researchers).
  • To contribute the internationalization in all areas of the Institute’s activity. To that end, INBIO will encourage the establishment of international collaborations by its members, and will put special attention to the participation of its researchers in calls at European level. In addition, institutional and economic support will be provided for the holding of international symposiums, meetings and congresses, as well as for their assistance when significant contributions are made by members of the same.
  • To exercise leadership by the most experienced researchers so that all the members of the Institute achieve excellence in scientific production. For this purpose, it will be possible to propose the creation of emerging groups led by young researchers, integrated into the Institute under the protection of competitive national and international calls for human resources.
